Welcome
Hello and
welcome to our new blog for Lackford Lakes. As you may know, the reserve at
Lackford has many things happening on a regular basis with sightings and projects
and through this blog, we hope to keep you informed as to what is occurring on
a weekly basis. But first, some introductions are in order and without further
a due, let us introduce our new members of staff:

Mike comes to
us from RSPB where he has worked for the last 9 years, the last 4 of which were
at the Blacktoft Sands reserve in Yorkshire. A keen bird spotter, Mike brings
to the reserve a wealth of bird knowledge to help all of our visitors with
their sightings. Next up is:

Hawk was
previously a volunteer for the trust under the Lottery funded Networking Nature
scheme. Hawk has been a keen amateur naturalist for several years but his main
passion is with bugs and bats and is willing to help anyone with their wildlife
queries.
This week on the reserve
The
kingfisher has been a regular visitor as always this week along with Gadwall,
Snipe, Little egret, Marsh tit, Pochard and Teal. However, there were a couple
of specialities, the first of which was a Whooper Swan, seen having a rest on
the Slough. The second more exciting sighting was right outside the centre, a
pair of Tree Sparrows. These turned up just as our resident volunteer and bird
aficionado Paul Holness was preparing his monthly bird walk at the visitor
centre and was a great way to start the walk.

As winter
approaches, our visitors are keeping their eyes peeled for more exciting views and as the weeks roll on we are expecting Goldeneye, Bittern, Goosander and much more to make a visit and even spend the winter. So
watch this space, or even better, come down and pay us a visit and see for
yourself, after all, you might even get to see one of our more regular visitors.
